Beirut Design Week 2015 launched this week with all the usual excitement. Since it began in 2012, the city-wide event has become a fan favorite of fashionistas and trendsetters in Lebanon.

Launching the week's events and festivities in the heart of Beirut's downtown area at Beirut Souks and Saifi Village, the opening featured the highly anticipated Finnish Design Exhibition, Dutch Design Exhibition, The Makers: Affordable Design Through Digital Fabrication and Based in Beirut: Collective Exhibition of Independent Designers along with plenty of free booze to digest all the creativity and a wide range of different creative exhibits and events happening around the city.

There was the red carpet treatment and free drinks at the Badih and Kantar Architects-sponsored opening party in the parking lot of Saifi Village. Who doesn't love the red carpet? Or, let's be honest, free food and drinks?

And of course the co-founder of Beirut Design Week, Doreen Toutikian, introduced the theme at the opening conference. This is the first year the event is operating under a theme, which is "Social Beings."

Lots of Beirutis showed up to hang out and connect with their artistic side.

While consuming free booze, akeed.

And enjoying stellar music.

People were excited about the local talent on display at the Based in Beirut exhibition.

The Makers exhibition was also a hit.

And there was this cool Candy Land exhibition by Ryan Houssari, even including cake by Stef's Cake. Cakes at a "Candy Land" exhibition? Yes please! Yummy.

Beirut Design Week continues until June 7, with special exhibitions and events taking place throughout the city all week. For a full schedule and all the program details, click here .
