After controversial Egyptian media personality Reham Said did what many are considering the most despicable move of her career, public outrage caused social media users to start a campaign asking advertisers to pull out from her infamous show.

On Thursday Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef made a significant contribution to the campaign when he took to Twitter to announce that he would advertise for the companies that sponsor the show for free to his 5.5 million Twitter followers in exchange for them boycotting the show.

Youssef started the Arabic hashtag " your advertisement is with us " to encourage other social media users to urge the companies to leave the show. As a result, social media was flooded with Egyptians posting photos endorsing the sponsors' products.

"The 13th: We would like to thank Downy for "the softest" dropout from this program."

"Why spend millions on advertisements in a program when you can be seen by five million followers here if you boycotted it? Hello Eva, Beity, Eva Baby, Al-Marai," Youssef wrote.

In less than seven hours, 15 major Egyptian brands announced that they would stop advertising on Al-Nahar TV's "Sabaya Al-Kheir" and that they are not responsible for the content of the show.

"Alright, well before we sleep we would like to welcome the 15th member, Dove, soap free from media filth."

The list includes commercial giants such as diapers manufacturer Pampers, detergent manufacturer Persil, cosmetics manufacturer Dove, electronics distributor El-Araby Group and dairy product manufacturer Al-Marai Egypt.

Marking a big win for the multiple social media efforts, Al-Nahar officially announced the suspension of the show on Friday following the advertisers' dropout and the increased public outcry, as well as the start of an investigation into the episode that sparked the outrage.

"I had forgotten the 12th, I apologize so that our psyches can be "clear" and lovely together."

In addition, the media company announced the cancellation of an episode of another one of its shows which is hosted by Egyptian TV host Khaled Salah that was supposed to feature Saeed as a guest on Friday night.

"Al-Nahar TV Channel assuredly apologizes to everyone who was upset by the aforementioned episode and assures its respect to every woman and girl from our girls, families and our honorable people," read the company's official statement .
