According to the latest research conducted by Facebook IQ, Arabs will be spending an extra 57 million hours on Facebook during Ramadan, Arabian Business reported on Sunday.

The research reveals that the majority of usage will be happening at night, with the largest relative increase in time spent at 3 a.m.

So what will people be using Facebook for?

1. Pre-Ramadan: Sharing recipes and advice

The pre-Ramadan period sees people sharing recipes and Ramadan related advice on the social media platform.

According to Al Arabiya, Facebook's research also revealed that during this phase, Ramadan fashion is one of the top topics discussed online, especially in the Gulf, as many take to the platform to plan their outfits for special family gatherings.

In the UAE for example, 47 percent of people surveyed said "they begin planning their clothing purchases in the month before Ramadan," and mostly do that through following brands and small businesses on social media platforms.

2. During Ramadan: Sharing experiences

During Ramadan, the survey found that people most often use Facebook to share their experiences.

"4.84x more mobile conversations take place during Ramadan compared to Non-Ramadan months in the MENA region."

And even though watching television is a popular pastime throughout the holy month, a television is no longer the only screen in people's living rooms.

In fact, "71 percent of Facebook users in the UAE say they’re on Facebook while watching TV."

3. Pre Eid Phase: Picking out gifts and making travel plans

The study showed that the best time for advertisers to reach consumers on Facebook is during the final week of Ramadan, probably because it's a period of time when people are looking for last minute gift ideas for eid.

The numbers also revealed that during this phase "there are over 20 million interactions," with content related to either going out or planning a holiday in the UAE and KSA.
