Arabic Language Day: 12 words we can't live without

After the United Nations recognized Arabic as one of the six official UN languages in 1973, the world celebrates the language on Dec.18 annually. 

In 2010, the global organization dedicated a day in honor of the Arabic language, which is considered to be the 5th most spoken language around the world. It takes an average of 1.69 years to learn Arabic ... but once you learn it, some words just stick.

Here are 12 Arabic words we just can't live without: 

What is reassurance without the word 3anjad?

Is a sentence really complete without the word ya3ni?

Because yalla is the only way to get things going. 

Would a person really stop if khalas isn't said?

Inshallah is the vaguest response out there.

The only way we know how to flaunt affection ... habibi.

3a2belik is the only way we know how to pressure a single person.

Without mashallah, the evil eye will dominate.

And without ma3lesh ... we'd live in an extremely dramatic world.

Because wallah these words are so useful.

With all the khara in the world, they make us feel better.

Because metet is the result if these words did not exist.
