On Saturday, at the Champions League final in Kiev, Mohamed Salah, who scored 44 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season and was instrumental in the success of the team, left the field in tears in the 31st minute after falling heavily under a controversial challenge by Real Madrid captain and defender Sergio Ramos.
The 25-year-old striker suffered ligament damage in his shoulder, according to the Egyptian Football Association, amid initial fears he could be in doubt for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia.
On the night, Liverpool F.C. ended up losing 3-1 against Real Madrid.
After the game, Ramos, who was heavily criticized for his tackle on Salah, went on Twitter writing he hoped the player could make a quick return to the game.
"Sometimes football shows you its good side and other times the bad. Above all, we are fellow pros. Prompt recovery, Salah. The future awaits you," the post read.
Here is how the Arab world reacted to Mohamed Salah's heartbreaking Champions League exit:
"The dirtiest moment in football history"
Many were enraged and heartbroken about the incident
"God bless you Salah"
"Get well soon"
"Ramos shouldn't get a medal"
Truly how everyone felt after Salah's injury
"You will never walk alone"
Salah appeared in a picture with Nusret Gokce, commonly known as Salt Bae, following his injury
Strangely enough, one Saudi Twitter user even predicted the injury and the match result prior to the much-anticipated final
"Liverpool will control the game in the first 20 minutes, then Mohamed Salah will get injured and will be replaced by the coach, then Real Madrid will control the game and win the title."
