A video of an Arab woman, now believed to be of Tunisian origin, proposing to her boyfriend at a university campus is going viral on social media, Sky News Arabia reported.
The footage started circulating online earlier this week, sparking controversy across various platforms. In it, a woman is seen getting down on one knee in front of her boyfriend, asking for his hand in marriage.
Even though it was first reported that the incident took place in Syria, later reports stated it actually went down in Tunisia. As the proposal video continues to make the rounds online, many, who were shocked by it, questioned its authenticity.
Some claimed that it's part of a Tunisian clothing brand's Valentine's Day promotions, while others thought it's actually true and were all for the idea.
Here's how the entire controversy played out online:
It all started when the proposal went viral... sparking an online meltdown
Some were shocked by the video
And while a few were completely against the idea...
"This is shameful. A man is the one who should propose to a woman and she'll then decide whether or not she wants to spend the rest of her life with him."
Many loved it
"She's free to do whatever she wants"
"This is what she wants and what she thinks is right."
