After stirring controversy for appearing in a porn film, Tunisian actress Meriem Ben Mami has spoken up about the matter.
In a radio interview, Ben Mami said she was tricked into performing in the clip and misled into thinking she was shooting a documentary, according to LBC.
Therefore, she has filed suit against the film's producers, who have made contradicting statements about the case.
The trailer of the film in question reportedly featured a naked couple taking a shower, with a photo of Ben Mami appearing at the end. It was taken down one day after being shared online.
According to the 38-year-old actress, a group of youths had asked her to shoot a documentary about the Kerkennah Islands as part of a campaign to promote tourism in Tunisia.
After they insisted that she take part in the film, she allegedly agreed to pose for photos and videos while on a boat.
Ben Mami said she was surprised to receive a call from authorities informing her she was featured on a porn website. She has thus decided to take legal action against the film's producers.
The film's director responds
According to some sources, while being interrogated, the film's director first claimed Ben Mami had approved of the full scenario. However, she then retracted her testimony and said that an Egyptian company is responsible for the film.
Abu Dhabi-based outlet Erem News reports that the director's husband has defended his wife and asked Ben Mami to drop her case, rather than "ruin the future of a young woman (his wife)." He added that the film is not a porno and it just includes "bold scenes."
Investigation into the case is still underway.
