An Egyptian mother, actress and math teacher has been brutally assaulted by her neighbor who knocked her to the floor and cut her head using a sharp object.
Why? Male entitlement, to put it mildly.
32-year-old Taghreed Abd El-Rahman posted a heartbreaking video on Facebook in which she explains what happened, along with graphic photos of the injuries she sustained.
With a shaky voice and teary eyes, Abd El-Rahman recalls how her male neighbor, whom "she does not personally know," verbally harassed her on a daily basis before proceeding to physically attack her one day.
Abd El-Rahman says that her neighbor views her as an indecent woman simply because she has performed on television and sometimes returns home late at night after shooting for long hours.
"I performed some successful gigs on television, so he decided that I am an indecent woman (bent shemal)," she says. "Because of my talent, because I have a passion for theater."
Abd El-Rahman claims he had been pestering her for a while and harassing her on daily basis with "words and looks that hurt deeply".
Things took a turn for the worse when she decided to ride a bike, an act that her neighbor deemed unacceptable, according to Abd El-Rahman.
"I made a huge mistake," she says sarcastically. "I rode a bike to run some errands instead of taking the car."
Soon after, she ran into him under the building and he spewed his usual vitriol, saying, "Do you want me to take you? Do I come and ride behind you?".
She then called the janitor, and asked him to tell the neighbor "to either stand politely or not stand at all".
That is when the man hit her in the face, threw her to the floor and went on to cut her head with a sharp object, Abd El-Rahman says.
She shared graphic images that show the spine-chilling scars on her head and ears.
Abd El-Rahman has since filed a complaint against her alleged assaulter, and whether or not authorities will take action remains to be seen.
"To whom it may concern, 12925 Jenh Al Haram, that is the number of the report."
She says that her neighbor made her feel as though she had committed a crime by doing something that is not considered the norm by conservatives, especially since she is not veiled.
On the verge of tears, she asks, "I have a question, why don't we accept each other's actions as long as we're not harming each other? Why do you consider me indecent just because I'm living my life freely in a way that does not interfere with yours?"
Towards the end of the video, Abd El-Rahman asserts her satisfaction and confidence in her lifestyle, saying, "I know many people believe that [what I'm doing] is wrong, but I am not the one at fault."
