In the eastern Sahara desert bordering the Red Sea in El Gouna lies Desert Breath, a truly breathtaking art installation. Completed in 1997, this manmade astonishing formation is still standing more than 15 years later – though slowly deteriorating.
The construction of Desert Breath was launched in 1995 by the D.A.S.T Arteam. The group consists of installation artist Danane Stratou, industrial architect and designer Alexandra Stratou, and architect Stella Konstantinidis.
To create this marvelous art installation, the team had to displace 8,000 cubic meters of sand to form specific positive and negative conical volumes.
Located between the sea and mountains, Desert Breath aims to function in two different points of view: a physical experience that can be described as magical and a top view which is visually appealing.
The construction of Desert Breath was completed in March 1997 and though with time, it may deteriorate, it still proves to be a breathtaking structure.
