Power outages in Lebanon have really taken a toll on the lives of many people and their businesses. A group of women in South Lebanon are among those affected and they need your help.
The power outages in Lebanon vary from region to region. The cuts this summer alone ranged between 12 hours to 16 hours a day, according to the Daily Star.
The numbers have also been reported to reach 18 hours in certain remote villages.
Part of the "Cooperative for agricultural production and manufacturing" in South Lebanon, a group of women have joined forces to naturally produce local foods, jams and breads to various parts of Lebanon.
However, they are suffering from Lebanon's chronic power outages, making their work all the more challenging, as their machines rely heavily on electricity.
They have launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise enough funds to allow them to build a solar plant to reduce their dependence on electricity, all the while being environment friendly.
"We are forced to work manually while our electrical machines are not being used. If we had electricity round the clock, we would have a greater production. Our work would greatly benefit the women working here as well as the growth of the cooperative," said Daad Ismail, a member of the cooperative, according to Global Voices .
The process will begin with an energy audit to identify the level of energy consumption the plant consumes. It will then be followed by a number of procedures before a solar energy system is installed on the roof of the plant.
The project is part of the Greenpeace work in the Arab region.
Greenpeace, a global campaigning organization started its preparation for it about a month ago, training a group of individuals who will help in the installation of the solar energy system.
"We have seen the excitement on people’s faces as they realize that this technology is not beyond their reach. And for these Young people from the south of Lebanon, this is the best way for them to put in practice their learnings and give back to the community that has supported them all these years!"
