Starting Aug. 5, more than 10,300 athletes from a record-breaking 206 nations will compete in 42 sports disciplines for the 306 sets of medals available at the Rio 2016 Olympics – the first Summer Olympics to be held in South America.
People all over the world will be eagerly watching their nation’s Olympians fight their way to the Olympic podium.
Several Arab nations are sending their largest-ever Olympic delegations and many of our athletes are poised to bring home medals from Rio 2016. So which channels will broadcast the Rio Olympics in the Middle East?
1. beIN Sports
According to 7Days, beIN launched series of Olympic documentaries and programs on Aug. 1. It will broadcast the opening and closing ceremonies and the beIN team will arrive to Rio on August 12 to cover the athletics events.
Every day, beIN will show 16 hours of live programs on HD1 and HD9 and the Free to Air Channel will display the Olympics’ results.
Now here's something to look forward to: Australian swimming Grant Hackett, winner of three gold, three silver and a bronze Olympic medal will be commentating for beIN with previews and reviews of the competition.
2. Dubai Sports
Since July 25, Dubai Sports has been covering the Olympic movement and updating viewers of the latest news. The channel has introduced several programs that showcase the stories of Olympians, the economical aspects of the games, Olympic history...
It has dedicated three HD and three SD channels for the big games. The main coverage will be broadcasted on Dubai Sports 1, while further results and events will be shown of DS 2, 3 and 4. Additionally, the channel's top commentators will cover football updates in an exclusive studio on DS 4.
3. Abu Dhabi Sports
The station has assigned six of its channels to keep track with the Rio Olympics.
AD has already broadcasted several documentaries that shed light on Arab participation in the games.
Additionally, several foreign channels such as Fox Turkey, Canal+ Sport France and ADF Germany will reportedly broadcast the games free of charge. The full list can be found here .
4. Nile Sports
Nile Sports informed StepFeed that it will cover the swimming, athletics, equestrian, weightlifting, judo, handball and beach volleyball events at Rio 2016. It will additionally broadcast diving, water polo, gymnastics, archery, badminton, fencing, along with wrestling and modern pentathlon.
