When it comes to Egyptian tantes, there are a whole lot of stereotypes.

Some are good, and some are bad.

But, despite them all, we can't but pause and tip our hat in recognition of these ladies. Why?

1. Gold, gold and more gold!

No matter the situation, Egyptian tantes are always decked out in (what seems to us as over the top) jewelry. Thanks ya tantes for reminding us to keep it fly whether we are out grocery shopping, going to a wedding, or just chilling at home.

2. Always commenting about your appearance

If your tante is particularly snarky, she might only have negative things to say about how you look.

"Oh, you've gained weight!"

"You'd look so much prettier if you just straightened your hair"

But for the most part, tantes usually only have sincerely nice things to say about you and to you.

"Inty ya amara, haty bossa!"

3. Eager to keep you fed and watered

Whether they've prepared the food themselves, or purchased it, you know when they (force) feed you that its from the heart. One of the many ways they show you their love is by getting you to try their latest creations or discoveries.

"A new bakery just opened up around the corner, and their baton-salle is to die for! Here, have some!"

4. Never ending motherly advice

Whether you have asked for it or not, Egyptian tantes are always ready and willing to share their motherly advice with you.

It could be about anything, and no, experience is not necessary.

Don't try to interrupt, just nod your head periodically and remember, they mean well.

5. Asking awkward questions about your love life

"Itkhatabt wla lissa?"

"Why aren't you married yet? "

"Are we going to see a little baby running around soon?"

"Who was the girl I saw you sitting with fil nady last week? She was cute! Are you going to introduce her to us soon?"

6. Thrifty shoppers

Women hold purchasing power because they do all the family shopping. Egyptian women know how to stretch their money and get what they want, on a budget. Knowing the ins and outs of souks and stores is part of what makes a tante a tante! Learning her thrifty ways will only benefit you.

7. Home remedies for every ailment

Every tante has a stockpile of herbs, oils, and powders somewhere in her home. And an even larger collection of DIY recipes for every possible ailment. Theres no need to take those pharmaceutical pills, you don't know what's in them! Ask your local tante about how to get thicker hair, softer skin, get rid of a scar, cure your bad breath, reduce inflammation- and she will definitely have something to share with you. Do not underestimate the power of a home remedies, they are usually quite successful!
