A 24-year-old Saudi woman lost her life in a tragic drowning incident that left thousands shocked on Twitter over the weekend.
Haya Al Dofairi was on a trip to Sri Lanka with her family when they decided to take a trip across a local river.
According to Akhbaar 24, the group got into an inflatable boat which later capsized, leaving the family of eight struggling to swim across the river's current.
As help arrived at the scene, rescuers were able to bring seven members of Al Dofairi's family to safety, but the young woman was nowhere to be found.
After a fifteen hour search, her body was found drowned in the river and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Saudi Arabia's embassy in Sri Lanka has since issued a statement on the accident
In a statement released on Friday, Saudi Arabia's embassy in Sri Lanka sent their condolences to the victim's family.
They also explained that their personnel communicated with Sri Lankan authorities, ensuring that investigations into the case were wrapped up.
They added that local officials were in direct contact with Al Dofairi's family, finalizing all procedures needed to take her back home for burial.
