The 14-year-old Saudi teen, who was arrested after doing the 'Macarena' this week, has been released by police with a warning.
Although many in the kingdom were amused by the boy's quirky rendition of the popular 1990's dance in the middle of a busy Jeddah traffic stop, Saudi authorities and many others in the kingdom weren't laughing.
Shortly after a video of the incident went viral, >police detained the boy saying he had exhibited "improper public behavior" and "disrupted traffic."
The boy and his legal guardian signed a paper acknowledging the inappropriate behavior and promising not to engage in similar actions moving forward.
"They signed a written pledge that the teen will not engage in behavior that could endanger his life and the life of others again," the kingdom's interior ministry said, according to Saudi Gazette.
"The notification was solely intended to warn the boy about potential consequences for his own safety, as well as to safeguard the overall safety of motorists and pedestrians," the ministry said.
No official charges were filed against the boy.
Prior to the boy's arrest, some called him a "hero"
And a "Jeddah Master"
And some predicted he'd be arrested
Cracking down on public dancing isn't exactly out of the ordinary in Saudi Arabia.
In recent weeks, the kingdom has >launched a war on dabbing. A Saudi singer was arrested after performing the move in a live concert. Many others were warned against the simple dance, in which a person drops their head into the bent crook of a slanted arm, while raising the opposite arm in a parallel direction out straight.
Saudi Arabia's National Committee for Combating Drugs, an initiative by the government to address drug addiction in the kingdom, sees dabbing as suggesting sniffing drugs.
