People of Bahrain, rejoice! The famous Saudi fast food chain >Al Baik is finally expanding outside the kingdom, and its first spot is Bahrain International Airport (BIA).
The restaurant's official Twitter account announced last week that Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) signed a deal with Oriental Yields Company to launch Al Baik at the airport.
Oriental Yields Company, owned by Tamimi Holding, had previously signed a memorandum of understanding with Al Baik Food Systems Company to franchise the chain.
According to the restaurant, the move comes in line with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which urges local companies to extend their activities abroad.
Predominantly popular for its affordable yet delicious fried chicken meals, Al Baik has become a household name in many of the kingdom's cities. To this day, thousands >queue in line for hours to get their Al Baik fix.
It is now set to launch in BIA's new passenger terminal building, which is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2019.
"With its wide range of offerings, we are confident the new terminal will become a catalyst for growth in commerce and retail, increasing the aviation sector’s contribution to the national economy," said BAC Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, according to Trade Arabia.
"We have cemented important partnerships with some of the most recognized companies in the world, which will ensure the new Passenger Terminal Building exceeds the expectations of stakeholders and travelers alike," he added.
Here's how social media users reacted to the news:
The excitement is REAL
People can hardly wait
Many think the decision is long overdue
"I've waited 11 years"
"About time"
"Happy" is an understatement
The news made people's entire month
"One of the best pieces of news I've heard in November."
Some criticized the choice of location
"So they couldn't find any location other than the airport?"
Non-Bahrainis are understandably jealous
"Could you please open a branch in Egypt?"
And Saudis want more branches in the kingdom
"Why would you launch in Bahrain when your branches haven't covered the entire kingdom?"
