Saudi authorities arrest men who assaulted Asian expat

Saudi authorities have arrested two people accused of assaulting and stealing money from an Asian man, Sabq news site reported. 

The news of the arrest came just one day after a video of the incident went viral on Twitter. 

In the footage, one of the men, who forced the victim out of his car and made him stand against a wall, is seen stealing money out of his wallet before physically assaulting him. 

The video sparked outrage across the kingdom, leading many to call on authorities to take quick action against the mugging gang. 

According to anonymous security sources, the aggressors are now under investigation and police forces believe they might have been involved in similar crimes committed over the past week.

Hours before police announced they had arrested the alleged perpetrators of the crime, a video of the incident sparked outrage online. 

Hundreds took to Twitter demanding that authorities take action against the muggers who are also suspected of attacking other people across the kingdom in recent weeks. 

"Such assaults are becoming common; these gangs must be stopped. We hope that prompt action is taken against them."

"May God give him [the victim] the justice he deserves." 

This is not the first mugging gang to be arrested in the kingdom this week. 

Early on Monday, Saudi authorities in Mecca announced the arrest of a group suspected of robbing taxi drivers. 

In their official statement on the matter, police said they'd received a large number of complaints from people who have been affected by such incidents in recent months. 

"Gang members would get in taxis with drivers and ask them to drive to remote locations. Then they'd threaten them with weapons and steal their money and any other valuables they have on them," the statement read.
