A Russian beauty queen has upgraded her title from former Miss Moscow to the Queen of Malaysia, after marrying the country's king.
25-year-old Oksana Voevodina recently wed 49-year-old King Muhammad V of Kelantan, who has been reigning over Malaysia since 2016.
Voevodina reportedly converted to Islam earlier this year before tying the knot with the monarch of the Muslim-majority nation, but it remains unclear which religion she previously belonged to.
Voevodina, who is >said to have converted to Islam in April 2018, married the king at a luxurious royal wedding ceremony held in Moscow last week. In accordance with Islamic teachings, the reception was alcohol-free and only halal food was served.
This comes as Islam is the official religion of Malaysia, whose >federal constitution states:
"Islam is the religion of the Federation; but other religions maybe practised in peace and harmony in any part of the Federation."
The constitution also stipulates that the ruler of each state serves as the "Head of the Religion of Islam" in his respective state.
According to Mirror.co, the new First Lady of Malaysia reportedly graduated from the prestigious Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. She was crowned as Miss Moscow in 2015 and has worked as a model in China and Thailand.
Voevodina says she did not realize the impact of her looks until she attended university.
"I was the tallest in my class (at school) and the most slim, and I was a bit worried about that. Only when I was at college did I realize that this was my strong side [...] Young guys started to pay attention," the New York Post quotes her as saying.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian head of state studied at Oxford University and later attended the European Business School in London.
RT reports that he was previously married to a member of Malay royalty, but has been divorced since 2008.
