We thought buying your own robot  in Dubai was cool, but the city always has something a little more shocking in store.

Dubai Municipality is bringing you 125 cm tall robot lifeguards!

"The move is also in response to the Dubai government directives to keep up with the latest technologies and innovations," said Alya Al Harmoudi, director of the Environment Department at Dubai Municipality, according to The National.

"It was to ensure that all the necessary requirements and precautions are in place to enhance the rescue operations on the public beaches of Dubai," she added.

The robots are remote-controlled, and can swim 12 times faster than a human....

And can save as many as five people at a given time

The robot is powered by recycled batteries, which can complete 30 rescue operations if fully charged

It weighs just 11 kilograms. But it can endure extreme weather conditions

The robot has been seen in the US . This is its first appearance in the Middle East

While this is pretty cool news, we'll miss watching those BAE-watch lifeguards strutting their stuff around the beach...
