Dubai police seized 18 luxury cars this past weekend in Oman, in a real-life version of the "Fast and Furious."

Officials stated that the cars were smuggled out of the United Arab Emirates to evade installments, using fake documents. Some of the cars were mortgaged to banks while others were reported stolen. Members of the car smuggling gang have been arrested.

Maj. Gen. Khamis Mattar Al Mazina, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, said cooperation with authorities in other countries helps track down criminal car gangs.

The gang – comprised of Arabs and Asians – used fake documents from a fake company to smuggle out the cars. Typically, owners will pay one or two premiums and then sell the car to a gang before leaving the country. It usually takes banks a few months to discover the theft after not recieving the payments, which gives gangs time to export the cars.
