This week, nominations for the 77th annual Golden Globe Awards were unveiled and the list features not one, but two Egyptian-American actors.
Rami Malek and Ramy Youssef both scored nods for their performances in television series.
Youssef earned his first Golden Globe nomination for "Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical" for his role in Ramy, a Hulu series about a Muslim Egyptian-American millennial.
Malek was nominated in the "Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama" category for his role in smash-hit TV series Mr. Robot. This is the third time he's nominated for playing Elliot Anderson in the show, which is now in its final season. Earlier this year, Malek won an >Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA for his brilliant >portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
Both stars are now set to attend the upcoming Golden Globe Awards which will be held on Jan. 5, 2020.
Youssef was thrilled with the news and took to Twitter to express his gratitude over the nomination.
In a video he posted on the platform, the actor can be seen comedically celebrating the feat on the set of his show with Oscar and Golden Globe winner co-star Mahershala Ali.
"Thank you so much for the nomination. We found out this morning while we're shooting on set and it's been an amazing day," the actor says before Ali interrupts him, saying: "It really isn't that big of a deal."
In a direct message to the LA Times, Youssef reacted to a nomination that came unexpectedly.
"I'm just trying to keep up with Mahershala so he can stop taunting me with his Oscars on set," he joked.
Youssef, who's also co-creator of the comedy Ramy, plays a New Jersey-based character that's loosely based on his own life. The show follows him as he "grapples with his Muslim faith while navigating sex, dating and relationships."
