First came the lead role in the Queen biopic >Bohemian Rhapsody. Then came the epic Oscar win. And now, it's been officially announced that Rami Malek will play the >villain in the upcoming James Bond movie.
The movie, which is yet to be named, would be the 25th edition of the spy film series. It is set to be released in April 2020.
"I'm very much looking forward to joining the whole cast and crew so very soon and I promise you that I will be making sure Mr. Bond will not have an easy ride of it in this, his 25th outing," the actor said in an announcement on Thursday.
Back in March, the Egyptian-American actor was reported to have been in talks for the villain role in 007. At the time, people >voiced their concerns over the fact that Malek might play a character who perpetuates inaccuracies about the Arab world.
Arabs and Muslims have long fallen >victims to stereotypical portrayals in Western-produced films, where they are almost exclusively featured as villains.
But, following the official announcement, social media reacted quite differently. The anticipation is high - and many non-James-Bond fans have converted to being 007 fans ... all because of Rami Malek.
