United States-led coalition airstrikes have hit Manbij, an ISIS-held city in Syria, which has reportedly left at least 73 civilians dead, according to the Guardian.

Before the attack on the city, activists had warned of high civilian casualties if the bombings were to go forward. Now, they are referring to the attack as the deadliest attack on innocent civilians since the start of the campaign against the group.

An estimated 70,000 civilians were trapped in the Syrian village, Zeid Raad Al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, warned on Friday, according to BBC .

UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has stated that 167 civilians have been killed since the Democratic Forces of Syria started their campaign against ISIS in Manbij, according to Al Jazeera .

However, the airstrikes on Manbij on Tuesday have been reported to be an "accident" by the director of the Observatory.

"We believe that the raids which were carried out Tuesday were by US [or] allied planes, but it was by mistake," said Rami Abdel-Rahman, according to Al Jazeera .

Since the bombing happened, many have been expressing their thoughts and prayers on social media under the hashtag #PrayForSyria, which is trending across multiple countries in the region including Lebanon and Jordan.
