The fashion industry has a lot to thank the military for. From various elements such as epaulets and chevrons to entire blazer constructions, big names have made so many billions of dollars borrowing aesthetic cues from existing army looks that they should be made to pay higher taxes towards national defense budgets.
But anyway, a familiar trooper component has been slowly making a comeback in the past two seasons: camouflage. Valentino incorporated the theme accented with pops of bright colors into his special edition sneakers last year and its prevalence has since trickled down to the high street.
Speaking of high street fashion, I took on a recent desert trip in ICONIC’s tres chic take on the trend’s final hurrah – a western pearl snap in denim, overlaid with a subtle camo print that makes it work with just about anything, except maybe cargo shorts because nothing ever looks right with those. A pair of camel trousers, braided rope belt and a vintage Omega Seamaster complete this earthy desert safari look.
