Emirati women will officially be celebrated this coming Friday.
Earlier this year, the government of the United Arab Emirates officially set aside Aug. 28 as Emirati Women's Day. This year, women serving in the country's military will be honored for their service.
According to the the UAE's Washington DC Embassy page, the country has four pioneering fighter pilots in its air force and has trained more than 30 other women to work in the nation's security forces. Women have also reached senior ranks in the military, particularly in the air force.
The country also opened the Gulf's first military academy for women, Khawla bint Al Azwar Military School, last September. Many young women have also taken the initiative to enroll in the military, especially since universal conscription for men aged 18 to 30 was introduced last year.
