On Monday, Egyptian legend Ezzat Abu Auf died at the age of 70 after years of battling liver and heart problems.

The great actor was amid a movie shoot with singer/actor Tamer Hosny, but unfortunately died before he was able to finish it, Arab News reported

His funeral took place at the Sayeda Nafisa Mosque in Cairo. "He is survived by daughter Mariam, who is a film director and a son, Kamal."

Abu Auf first started his career in arts as a music composer, forming a band with his four sisters - Mona, Maha, Manal, and Mervat - and naming it "4M." He also grabbed the attention of directors, who thought he had what it takes for the big screen.

He participated in over 100 works — between TV, cinema, and theater.

Arab celebrities, colleagues, and fans mourned his death both online and offline, remembering him as a legend who propelled Egyptian cinema.

"Egypt today lost one of its artistic landmarks," said Ashraf Zaki, the head of the Egyptian Actors' Union.

"My deep condolences over the death of dear Dr. Ezzat Abu Auf. May God have mercy upon him," pop singer Amr Diab, and the first co-actor in Abu Auf's acting career debut in 1992, said

His fans from around the Arab world also mourned his death online
