Beyoncé is no stranger to turning heads - be it music, >fashion, or films. Most recently, her documentary/concert Netflix film "Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé" scored six Emmy nominations. She personally received three nominations including Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special (with Ed Burke), Outstanding Music Direction (with Derek Dixie), and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special.
The film is nominated under other categories including Outstanding Variety Special (pre-recorded), production design, and costumes.
In the category for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special, Lebanese-born Andrew Makadsi is nominated for an Emmy for his work on Queen B's film.
This is Makadsi's first Emmy nomination.
"Woke up to my first Emmy nomination. I'm in tears," he tweeted
Makadsi was the art director of the film
He's worked with Queen B multiple times in the past
Who is Andrew Makadsi?
Makadsi was born and raised in Zahle, Lebanon — the third-largest city in the country after Beirut and Tripoli. In 2007, Makadsi moved to the United States with his family, residing in New Jersey at the start. He then pursued his education at the University of Toledo in Ohio. In 2010, he graduated with dual bachelor's degree in film/video and communication.
He then moved to New York to work in the fashion industry, starting as an intern there. And well, the rest is history. His works - in video and film - span various themes including sexuality, gender, and pop culture among other things.
He is currently employed at Parkwood Entertainment, an American management and entertainment company founded by Beyoncé in 2010. He's been working there for a bit over three years, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Prior to that, he worked with Queen B as an Art Director on a few projects including - but not limited to - On The Run Tour and Formation World Tour.
He created the art direction for many of her videos, too.
"I'm part of an amazing team. They are just the most creative people," he once said in an interview.
