Because female flight attendants can't be cut some slack, one Kuwaiti lawmaker is pushing to replace the already uncomfortable-looking uniform to match "religious" principles, citing the constitution, Gulf News reported Sunday. The proposal, according to the report, is only intended for Kuwaiti airlines.
MP Abdul Rahman Al Jiran's remarks, which he said were legitimate because they were based on Article Two of the Kuwaiti constitution, have been met with mixed reviews on social media. Kuwaiti bloggers stood at odds between congratulating the lawmaker and criticizing him.
A number of bloggers, including Kuwaiti One, applauded Jiran's initiative.
“We thank the lawmaker and we look forward to the application of his proposal,” Kuwaiti One posted, saying that the uniforms weren't "decent enough.” Another blogger, Hussain, thanked Jiran for his efforts to uphold Kuwait's religious values.
Others, however, were not pleased with the lawmaker's comments.
“The lawmaker is obviously seeking to stir compassionate feelings and to achieve personal interests,” Noor wrote, saying that Jiran's move was "pathetic."
Bu Mishal wrote that it was "utter nonsense," while a third blogger, Ahmad, called on the lawmaker to reset his priorities.
"Get serious and look at the important things happening in the country. You cannot be that blind," he added.
