On Monday, Gary Neville, an English football coach and a former professional player, caused quite a stir during a Q&A session on Twitter.

Neville was asked which player from the current Liverpool FC team would fit in rival Manchester United's squad.

His answer was that none of them would be a good fit for the current Manchester United team and that the popular Egyptian football player, Mohamed Salah, would do well at Salford City FC instead, leaving the latter's fans in Egypt and the Arab world rather angry.

The backlash lasted for more than two days and some tweets will surely make you LOL.

It all started with this tweet:

Jealousy, jealousy everywhere

Some people were baffled by the statement

Announcing a great Twitter battle

Egyptians are ready for a fight

"You're making a mistake. Leave Salah alone for us to leave you alone."

"Settle down, child"

"That boy is underestimating Salah"

Saudis had Salah's back too... with harsh comebacks

"Bravo, throw Ta3meya at him"

"Aren't you going to throw some Kabsa too?"

"You better go eat some hay ... let Google translate that for you"

Some felt bad for the tweep who launched this thread

"Every now and then, the poor man gets notifications because people keep replying to Neville. I'll mention him as well to add to his suffering."

Tweeps cared to remind Neville of the past

One important incident, to be specific

Two years ago, in a >humiliating defeat, Neville's Valencia lost 0-7 to Barcelona>.

"Party!"

"Abu Salah watching the party unfold"

Sarcasm never fails to join the fun

Salah's fans are simply not happy

"Congratulations, you have received a little attention"
