Moroccan-American singer/songwriter Karim Kharbouch, better known as> French Montana, arrived at the Met Gala 2019 in full Ramadan spirit.
The 34-year-old embraced his roots as he walked down the pink carpet at the event, which took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The singer reportedly said his outfit - an item from Gucci's Dapper Dan collection - was meant to mark the first night of Ramadan.
In an Instagram caption, the singer wrote: "CHEIK MONTANA 🙏 RAMADAN MUBARAK."
The event's 2019 theme was "Camp: Notes on Fashion" ... and some believe Montana failed to grasp the theme properly.
The exhibit is based on Susan Sontag's 1964 essay "Notes on Camp," in which the author tried to make sense of the term. She wrote that camp is the "love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration."
VOX attempted to define camp by giving examples in various divisions of life. In fashion, "camp has no interest in traditional ideas of beauty or good taste. It wants exuberant fakery. It wants spectacle. It wants to explode boundaries," VOX explains.
