Egypt has ranked first at the 2017 African Fencing Championship, winning a total of 18 medals, six of which were gold.
The Championship was held at Cairo's International Stadium between the 8th and 12th of June and saw the participation of nearly 100 fencers from across the African continent.
Participating countries included Tunisia, Morocco, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, and Senegal.
This is the second time Egypt wins big at the fencing championship. The country also came first with a total of 18 medals back in 2012.
Impressive wins
This year's championship included 12 events which were split into two categories: Individual and team games.
In individual competitions, Alaa El-Din Aboul Kasem, winner of a silver medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, won gold at the men individual foil competition.
His compatriot Ayman Mohamed Fayez won the men's individual épée competition.
Individual Egyptian female players also stood out at this year's championship with Yara El-Sharkawy scoring four silver medals and Salwa Gaber, also scoring a silver win.
In addition to individual wins, the country scored in team games, winning medals through both their male and female teams.
Tunisia ranks second
Tunisia, who has ranked first at the championship for the past four years, got the second spot this year, with 12 medals.
Ines Boubakri, Olympic bronze medallist won a gold medal at the foil individual competition.
Tunisian fencers also swept the sabre competitions, with both Azza Besbes and Fares Ferjani winning gold medals.
