Comic Con first came to the Middle East four years ago and was mostly thought to be a great event for gamers, comic geeks and ... nerds. Flash forward a few years later and the event has taken off, attracting fans from across the region, as well as international stars such as Star Trek's William Shatner or X-Files Gillian Anderson . With over 30,000 people in attendance over three days, many are calling it the cultural event of the year.
The Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC) came to a close this year in Dubai with cosplayers, gamers and curious visitors begging for more. With celebrity meet-and-greets, workshops, gaming competitions and popup shops, the convention ended much too quickly.
As a space where all sort of wonderful freaks and geeks gather, it was a fanfare of color and craft. Here are some photos from the super-awesome event.
From the inside,
to the outside
Around the halls of the Dubai World Trade Center, it would be no surprise if you bumped into your favorite superheroes all posing for a picture together.
Nor would it be if you saw your favorite villain cracking a smile, with his spectacular top-hat.
And what would be a comic experience without the getaway car?
If you were envious of all the costumes, you could have popped into one of the cosplay workshops held at the Con.
The gamers in attendance (there were a few...) were certainly not disappointed. Fan favorites such as Bloodborne and Mortal Kombat had massive stands all to themselves.
And Trekkies united for the golden opportunity to meet Captain Kirk aka William Shatner.
And for the Star Wars fans? Troopers, troopers everywhere.
But the best part of all? Where else would you see a squirrel getting into a fistfight with a dinosaur (even we can't figure out what the unicorn is doing there).
Bottom line: We'll be there again next year.
