What better way can one talk about the future than by example? That's exactly what Dubai's crown prince did during his speech at the World Government Summit.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum took the stage at the summit, or rather a hologram version of him did, to discuss the seven shifts shaping future cities. During his 30-minute speech, the crown prince aimed to challenge some of the misconceptions people have about technology and the future.
Showcasing Dubai's innovative spirit, the crown prince wanted to prove that artificial intelligence does not aim to replace humans, but serves as an aid.
"Anticipating future shifts & challenges, we need to harness the power of innovation & creativity to set standards for smart cities," the crown prince wrote on Twitter following his speech.
The crown prince said the goal is to "put Dubai 10 years ahead of other cities," according to The National.
To further make a point, the crown prince talked about how technology is being used to better society. He referenced mobility problems in the city of Dubai and explained how technology serves as a solution.
"Automation will reduce traffic in Dubai by 40 percent," he said.
He spoke about the >Hyperloop transportation system that would shuttle passengers between Dubai and Abu Dhabi in 15 minutes. The UAE aims to have the track operational by 2020, just in time for Dubai Expo.
