Dubai's Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum aimed for new heights, in every sense of the word, to commemorate the UAE's 48th >National Day on Monday.
The adventure-loving royal set a new Guinness World Record alongside a group of parachutists who flew a 144.28 m²-flag of the UAE over Dubai's Palm Jumeirah. The dive took place on Nov. 18 (or Nov. 25, but GWR is confusing us) but was kept under the wraps until this week.
Sheikh Hamdan took to Instagram and shared incredible footage of the entire feat on Monday, amassing over 1.17 million views on the video. Captioning the clip of the breathtaking free fall, he wrote:
"Another proud moment as our nation's flag sets a new World Record for the largest flag flown in free fall measuring 144.28 m² Happy National Day."
The Skydive Dubai team will now wait for any opponent ready to beat the "largest flag flown while in freefall (skydiving)" record. In the time being, people get the chance to marvel at the one the UAE snatched.
The royal's video was met with plenty of support and a wave of applause as people absolutely loved it.
Many congratulated him on the achievement while others congratulated Emiratis on their country's National Day.
