Disney is not giving its audience a reason to let go of their >whitewashing accusations, and its most recent decision just made these claims all the more legit.
The media conglomerate will be creating a completely new character in the upcoming live-action Aladdin film, which will be played by Billy Magnussen, according to Hollywood Reporter.
Magnussen will play the role of Prince Anders, a character that does not exist in the 1992 animated film.
Because Prince Ali isn't enough?
Details of the character have not yet been revealed, but Magnussen will be joining the already confirmed cast, which includes Egyptian-Canadian actor >Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Tunisian-Dutch >Marwan Kenzari (Jafar), Naomi Scott (Princess Jasmine) and Will Smith (Genie).
A new part just to cast another white actor?
We let go of the fact that Disney "couldn't find" a Middle Easterner to play Jasmine, but this?!?
"The gentrification of Agrabah has begun"
DISNEY ... you are on very THIN ICE
The definition of whitewashing, indeed
But, nobody asked for this ... so why Disney? Why?
In July, the entertainment conglomerate received >backlash after claiming that the casting of Middle Eastern actors and actresses had been more difficult than anticipated.
Some said this was just a disguise for potentially >whitewashing the film.
But, after Massoud and Kenzari were confirmed for their roles in the live-action film, people gave Disney a break.
Except, now the war on Disney has been reignited ... all over again.
