Yoshitaka Amano is a famous character designer, artist and illustrator who hails from Japan. His first claim to fame was when he worked on Speed Racer in the late 1960s. He later went on to create many characters (including those of the highly popular Final Fantasy series) and to illustrate renowned novels such as Vampire Hunter D .

5 time winner of the Seiun Award (a Japanese award for the best science fiction) and winner of the Bram Stoker Award, he has collaborated with big international names like Neil Gaiman.

Yoshitaka Amano's art is mostly rooted in printmaking which encompasses carving wood, running ink, scoring copper plates and transferring ink to paper. He also uses lithography as a vehicle for artistic expression. Vibrant acrylics and a signature watercolor effect add a distinctive touch to his work which has traces of traditional ukiyo-e styling.
