Whether you’ve only ever been a visitor to the realm of gaming, or are a hard-core console geek who can quote subcharacter lines from the most obscure games out there (you know who you are), chances are you’ve tried your hand at the 2001 market-crashing game, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" by Bethesda Game Studios.
Following the very successful releases of Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls (TES) fans everywhere are desperately awaiting the much-anticipated sixth edition to the gaming series. As with everything that has a very high internet following, rumors of the game’s release have been bouncing around all over the Interwebz. We spent the week sorting through that colossal haystack that is the Official Elder Scrolls forum and finding all the really good needles, so that you don’t have to. You're welcome.
Where will it be?
As you may be aware of, the map of the open world fantasy game of TES usually is set on a very large scope. So far, we’ve only seen the continent of Tamriel, in the world of Nirn. Fans are practically raging an online war with some people swearing the next installment will be in Elsweyr (province of the cat-like race called the Khajiit) while others claim it’ll happen in Argonia, also known as the Black Marsh (the swampy province of the lizard-people race of Argonians). This particular writer has her fingers crossed for the desert land of the cat people. Meow!
The release date.
Bethesda has a reputation of taking four to five years to develop their high profile games – fans of TES remember the wait between Oblivion (released in 2006) and Skyrim (released in 2011) – and since Bethesda has always delivered impeccable story lines and wonderful-free roaming games that provide countless of hours of immersion, we’re pretty much okay with that. Given this time frame, people are expecting the release of "The Elder Scrolls VI" to be in 2016, and many fans are expecting Bethesda to start releasing trailers and teasers as early as this May. Many are hopeful that Bethesda will possibly make a statement at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) about the official release date.
New console?
Everyone with a new console is squirming to see what Bethesda will conjure up for the new generation of gaming devices. PlayStation 4, anybody? Voice-activated commands? Out of this world graphics? The Skyrim is the limit! Our fingers are crossed that Bethesda will find a way to build up on the previously available codes and provide the new game with a more expansive scope.
A Skyrim sequel (Spoiler alert)
Seeing as the world of Skyrim is filled with political fractions in the middle of a raging civil war, and replete with guilds and houses that the players can join and buy, those of us who managed to actually finish the game (Go Dark Brotherhood!) know that the emperor was eventually killed. Fans are saying that "The Elder Scrolls VI" could be Bethesda’s first actual sequel that continues with the political story line of Skyrim. Will the Imperials or Stormcloaks end up with control of the provinces?
New races, weapons and lore
This may be more of a fan-based, sexy-type dream than an actual rumor, but fans all over are claiming that players will be provided with a higher number of playable races, more advanced and rudimentary weapons (hello, spears!), and even more lore to discover, hopefully with a lot more spell-casting quests! Oh, yes. Yes, please.
