In a now viral tweet by well-known Saudi journalist, Abdul Mohsen Al Tamimi, an image of a burger sold at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Jeddah, for a whopping SR5000 ($1,333), has recently stirred comments both online and off.
The burger is one of the most costly items on the menu of the five-star hotel, which is located in Al Hamra District, Arab News reported.
Adorned with a gold leaf, the burger is made with high-end ingredients such as Kobe beef, black truffle, foie gras, gruyere cheese, wild mushrooms, caviar and flaked edible gold.
Speaking to Arab News, an unnamed hotel staff member revealed that the burger is in high demand and is called The Royal Burger.
So what do people think of it?
Even though the unnamed hotel staff member said there was high demand for the burger, its price divided people on social media.
While many shared the view that people should be free to pay any amount they want for food, others had a completely opposite take on it.
Here's a little of what people had to say:
Some will just not pay this amount for a burger
"Even if it satisfies my hunger for life, I wouldn't pay this price for a burger."
Others think people should be free to choose
"What's it to you... they're free to list the price they see fit and you're free to choose not to go eat there."
"No one's forcing you to pay this amount for a burger, but people who can afford it should be free to choose whether they'd want to try it or not."
A few are all for it
"It's expensive because it's gold plated... plus, similar burgers are served in countries all over the world. It's regressive to complain about every single little thing."
While others are taking to humor to make us all LOL
"5000 Riyals and it comes without a soft drink?"
"I'd need to take out a loan to be able to afford it."
Not the only expensive burger in the region
A gold-leafed burger inspired by the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa, was unveiled by The Roadery restaurant in February at the "Eat the World DXB festival."
Even though its> price tag - DH230 ($63) falls short in comparison to The Royal Burger, it's still considered an expensive price to pay for such an item.
With its name inspired by the famed Dubai skyscraper, the Burg Khalifa, contains four Wagyu beef patties, seared duck foie gras, black truffled cheese, saffron mayonnaise, all topped by a 24-carat edible gold burger bun.
And bonus: 10K Burger auctioned in Dubai
A record-breaking $10,000 burger?
Yes, you heard that right.
The Seven Emirates Burgerstack, is currently considered the world's most >expensive sandwich, beating a previous record set two years earlier.
The burger was unveiled at an auction that was part of Pink Caravan's breast cancer charity event which saw all proceeds go towards breast cancer awareness and treatment.
Prepared by Le Gourmet and Al Thani culinary director Russell Impiazzi, the burger is composed of seven beef patties, aged cheddar cheese, and veal bacon strips in a saffron brioche bun.
