On Sunday, British politician Jeremy Corbyn was assaulted by a man holding an egg while he was visiting a mosque in north London.
According to the BBC, the man who allegedly hit Corbyn was "quickly detained by officers on scene" and later arrested on charges of assault by beating.
The Labour Party leader had been visiting the Finsbury Park Mosque and Muslim Welfare House when 31-year-old John Murphy attacked him. The attacker was waiting inside the building and attacked the politician from behind, hitting him with the egg in his hand.
The politician left the mosque - unharmed - with a police escort. Corbyn later tweeted in solidarity with #VisitMyMosque day without mentioning the incident.
"Every year Muslim communities across the country open their doors to people of all faiths and none on #VisitMyMosque Day," he tweeted.
"It's a fantastic opportunity to build understanding across communities and educate ourselves about our diverse communities. Let's build bridges not walls," he added.
According to media reports, the attacker is a pro-Brexit campaigner. Corbyn recently announced The Labour Party's support for a second Brexit referendum - which would give British citizens another chance to vote against the deal.
According to CNN, the Labour Party will put forward or support "an amendment in favor of a public vote to prevent a damaging Tory Brexit being forced on the country."
In June 2016, the British public voted in favor of Brexit, which would see the UK leave the European Union.
In March 2017, British PM Theresa May triggered a process which would allow the UK to leave the EU according to the terms of Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty - giving both sides two years to agree to the terms.
With that, the UK is scheduled to exit from the EU on March 29, 2019. According to the BBC, a European court has ruled that the "UK can decide to halt the process and stay in the EU at any time up to the deadline."
Another alternative to an extension would be if all 28 EU members vote for one.
The mosque where it happened
The Finsbury Park Mosque - one of the country's biggest mosques - is no stranger to vile attacks and assaults.
In 2017, a van >struck Muslim worshippers leaving the mosque. The assault left one man dead and injured at least 10 other pedestrians. At the time of the attack, the multi-ethnic neighborhood was crowded with Muslims leaving the house of worship after Ramadan prayers.
According to witnesses, the driver had yelled that he wanted to "kill all Muslims." He was arrested soon after the attack took place.
