Months after it was >revealed that a hijabi will feature in the world's latest emoji update, Apple officially included it in a short preview of their latest collection.
Released on Monday, the collection coincides with World Emoji Day; it features a breastfeeding woman, a bearded man, and several other exciting additions.
The company's most recent preview is only a sneak peek though, and doesn't feature all 56 emojis previously approved by Unicode Consortium, the organization responsible for the evolution of emoji.
So how did the hijabi emoji come about?
The emoji comes over a year after 15-year-old >Rayouf Alhumedhi sent a >hijabi emoji proposal to Unicode Consortium.
The idea for it >came up after the teen asked a group of friends to choose an emoji that represents them and realized none of the emojis actually looked like her.
"With this enormous number of people, not a single space on the keyboard is reserved for them," her original proposal read.
Soon after, it caught the eye of Reddit's co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who not only promoted Alhumedhi's proposal but also >co-drafted it.
Even though her proposal is the most widely known, it's not only Alhumedhi who wants a hijabi emoji.
In fact, it has been requested over 14,888 times on EmojiRequest, a worldwide platform for requesting new emojis.
