Two weeks ago, on the 13th of November, Beirutis woke to news that would change their city irrevocably.

Achour Development, a development company, started to destroy the last public beach in Beirut, leaving >the capital without a coast.

Here's a round-up of reactions.

1. A protest today

2. "Kidnapped independence"

Our independence is kidnapped when there is no longer a public beach in Beirut.

3. Silent but never unnoticed

Our city has been pillaged and is losing its coast amid fatal silence.

4. Losing two coasts in one day! Good job, Lebanon

This is happening in Tripoli's Mina, too, where the beaches also risk privatization, a report from LBCI reveals.

5. What's important to your people should be important to you as an individual

Beirut's governor: protect Beirut's coast.

6. We've already lost so much

7. A tool to you is a paradise to others
