Muslat Abu Theneen Al-Sobaie, a Saudi businessman, really wanted to show some love to the new U.S. president. So,> he bought a full-page ad in the popular daily Al-Jazira.
Written in Arabic and English, the ad says: "I congratulate you on your Presidential Inauguration and wish you a successful term and the people of the United States continued prosperity."
Sobaie told Arab News that he was expressing a strong personal appreciation for the new American president.
Specifically he said that he supported Trump's policy against Iran and his position "toward the afflicted Syrian people." He continued by saying "the whole world ignored the injustice inflicted on the Syrian people," and suggested that Trump had not.
Trump has taken a strong position against accepting any Syrian refugees and has called for a complete ban on Muslims entering the U.S.
Apparently Sobaie views that as supporting the victims of the Syrian conflict?
But, Sobaie's support of Trump actually appears to align with that of the Saudi government.
Last week, >the kingdom's foreign minister said that Trump's positions and those of Riyadh align. "The objectives we want to achieve are the same," Adel Al Jubeir said.
"Wanting to defeat ISIS, absolutely," he said. "Wanting to contain Iran ... absolutely."
A former Saudi diplomat also told The Washington Post in November that most members of the royal family "are happy with the result," saying Saudis "are closer to Republicans psychologically."
