The case of a newborn who was kidnapped from the King Khaled Hospital in Saudi Arabia's Kharj governorate on Thursday has sparked outrage on social media in the kingdom.
Speaking to Sabq news site, the newborn's father, Mohammad Al Kaabi, shared the details of the heartbreaking incident.
"My wife gave birth on Wednesday and we were expecting to leave the hospital the next day. On Thursday afternoon, a woman dressed in a nurse uniform came into the room, and told my wife that she had to take the baby for pre-discharge tests."
"The woman left the room with the infant and that was the last time anyone saw them," he added.
Al Kaabi also explained that he immediately filed a case with police in the city.
"After an investigation was launched late on Thursday, officers viewed the hospital's CCTV footage. In it, the woman is seen walking out of the hospital after she put our baby in a plastic bag. Police are still looking for them," Al Kaabi added.
People are shocked
The chilling details of the incident shocked many on social media, who accused the hospital's staff and administration of incompetence.
As soon as news of the incident began to make the rounds online, thousands took to the hashtag: 'The kidnapping of a baby in Kharj,' in the hopes that it can help in finding leads to the case.
Thousands had questions
"How does the kidnapping of a newborn happen in a hospital? Where are its security officers? Where are the security cameras?"
Others raised this point:
"How did this woman pretend to be a nurse? How did no one working in the department notice that she doesn't work there? How did she enter the hospital ward without a staff/nurse ID card?"
"This is terrifying"
"This is terrifying. The case must be prioritized by our government and people. May God reunite the newborn with his parents all safe and sound."
"I don't understand people who ask about security cameras, when they know that 99% of women here cover their faces"
Hundreds are now trying to help find the newborn
"This child must be returned to his parents. We're ready to offer a monetary reward to anyone who has information or any leads."
Many blamed the hospital's administration and staff
"This is a sign of gross negligence on the part of the hospital's administration and staff. It's truly upsetting."
While a few had a different point of view
"Neither the hospital nor its staff have anything to do with this... this is an unexpected event, who would've thought that anyone is capable of doing anything like this?"
