With Arab gatherings comes a special type of hosting. For years, it's been the same way. Fresh kanafeh must be served hot, as the melted cheese causes chaos when being cut, complimented with something salty like makhlouta and all the while being served warm drinks like Arabic coffee or tea.

Whatever it is, these traditions don't seem to be going away anytime soon. I bet you've seen at least three of these things at the last traditional Arab gathering you were invited to:

1. Seeds

Otherwise known as Egyptian seeds, these are just addictive. Once you start, you just can't stop.

2. Arabic coffee

If the gathering is happening in a super traditional home, you know drinking coffee only means one thing: future telling.

3. Tea

And don't you dare make it with one pot. Two pots over each other is the way to go. Always.

4. Kanafeh

Always serve hot and fresh. Don't forget the sugar syrup.

5. Nuts

Whether it's served right when the guests come or all throughout the gathering, nuts are a must.

6. Termos

Beans served with lemon and cumin ... just yum!

7. Mabsam for argileh

You know if your guests aren't smoking cigarettes, they're probably smoking argileh. Make sure to get a box of those plastic "mabsams" so your guests can smoke comfortably.

8. Dried chickpeas

Otherwise known as leblebi, these come in all flavors and sizes. Whether seasoned with salt, spices, or candy coated, these roasted chickpeas are served but rarely ever eaten. Dry mouth all the way.
