Fasting is not just about restraining from eating and drinking. Often one is at a loss of words when trying to explain the spirit of Ramadan. Even though we like to pretend that we are indeed fasting, a very small minority in Egypt actually understands the true meaning of fasting during Ramadan.

1. The constant swearing and fighting during fasting times

Talk about severe anger issues. For real, it's not the end of the world, and there's no need to make believe that you're about to embark on an indefinite war.

2. Sexual harassment

News flash: Sexual harassment that is communicated verbally is still sexual harassment. So just keep walking, pal.

3. Sleeping throughout fasting hours

That defeats the entire purpose of fasting.

4. The abundance of food

One of the the concepts of fasting is we're supposed to learn and understand the plight of the poor but nope, we go all out and forget the entire idea.

5. Avoiding drinking alcohol or committing forbidden acts in Islam for 29 days. The 30th, however, the country turns into one big high and drunken orgy

For the record, the last day of the month still counts.

6.  Only remembering to give to charity because of a TV ad

They depend on donations all year long.

7. Dismissing the need of other shelters

Simply because they cater to the needs of other species.
