In January, a leaked video of Gibran Bassil, Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of Free Patriotic Movement, referring to the country's parliament speaker and head of Amal political movement Nabih Berri as a "thug" >sparked violent riots in Beirut.
According to Annahar, the reference, which was deemed offensive to Berri, angered his supporters and fueled existing political tensions between the speaker and Lebanon's President Michel Aoun - who is also Bassil's father-in-law.
The controversy became a topic of discussion on social media soon after and ultimately moved offline, leading hundreds to take to the streets, violently attacking public property and burning tires.

"I don't understand why the word angered supporters of the Amal political movement. #JeSuisBaltaje"
