British-Egyptian YouTuber Dina Torkia (aka Dina Tokio) is no stranger to >social media fame, but her most recent initiative is getting Muslims from all over to pitch in their two cents on a recent campaign launched by the platform.
Tokio posted a video, as part of YouTube's global Creators for Change initiative in which 39 ambassadors from around the world are combating hate speech in various ways, under the theme: Your Average Muslim.
The 28-year-old Muslim vlogger came up with the idea for the series because she was tired "of constantly being praised for 'breaking the stereotype' just because I'm a Muslim woman who happens to be successful. This should be the NORM!" she says at the start of the video.
Torkia then invited Muslims from all over to "reclaim our narrative" by sharing personal stories of what it's like being an "average Muslim."
Some of the responses are hilarious. More importantly, they shed light on the diversity found within the Muslim community around the globe.
