Whether you love her, hate her, agree or disagree with her, you can’t deny that Emirati singer Ahlam Al Shamsi is one of the biggest stars in the Arab world, and the most controversial (remember The Queen program?)

Golden moments!

Ahlam’s words and her opinions of fellow celebrities are not the only things that stir controversy among audiences, but also her sense of style (or lack thereof, depending which way you look at it). In 2012, she famously bragged about wearing a 1.3 million dirham dress designed by Lebanese designer Tony Yaacoub, which featured gold and diamonds.

Similarly in 2013, she posted a Facebook photo of herself wearing diamond jewelry worth 4 million dollars. How do we know that? Because, she told us and the rest of the world!

2017 is all about experimentation

This year, Ahlam’s looks in Arab Idol are no less extravagant, but if there is one word that could describe her style this season it would be “experimental”. It's clear that she is trying different looks every episode and the results range between: amazing, bad, “what was she thinking?!” and “doesn’t she have a mirror?”

Let’s take a look at Ahlam’s best and worst style moments from Arab Idol 2017:

1. Embellished black dress by Rami Kadi

This is by far one of her best looks this year, if not ever! For this look she wore a fully hand embroidered custom made couture piece, complimented with a fringed multicolored vest. The dress perfectly hugged her figure in all the right places, even the hair and makeup were on point.

Fashion police says: "flaunt it girl and leave them maghoreeeeeeeeeeeen!!!"

2. Embellished white dress by Rami Kadi

Ahlam and Rami Kadi are a match made in fashion heaven, and the dresses prove it. I mean how regal does she look in this white foil dress from the Spring/summer 2017 couture collection? Ahlam hit all the high notes of elegance with ease in this number! Did you notice the complimenting white eyeliner? #adore

Fashion police says: “See? You don’t need a gold and diamond dress to look fabulous!”

3. Ruffled look from Rami Kadi

Wait, wait, wait!! Scratch the “match made in fashion heaven” statement I made earlier, because this just screams "wrong" on every level. What is going on here Ahlam and Rami? Aren’t the ruffles a bit too much? This outfit looks like an 80s negligee on steroids!

Fashion police says: "Louis the 14th called, he wants his pajamas back."

4. Indian look from Sabyasachi

Kudos for trying something outside the box, but this look is way “outside” that you can’t even see the box anymore! None of these pieces work together. Ahlam, this designer really hates you!

Fashion police says: "the Maharaja called; said you can keep the look because he hated it anyway."

5. “Don’t know how to describe this look” look from Sabyasachi

Didn’t I tell you this designer hates you?! Where do I even start? The “I just got back from a safari in Kenya” choker? The “let me turn my curtain into a dress” fabric? The “don’t tell my neighbor I stole his chicken” feathers? The “Winnie-the-Pooh is an orphan now” skirt? No, just NO AHLAM!

Fashion police says: "but hey, we don’t judge. Actually, we do. We really do."

6. Black ensemble from Dior

This is more like it! I love the simplicity of this Dior ensemble. The layering game is strong here and the hair is on fleek. In this look Ahlam finally tried a simple, clean, sophisticated style and she’s done so perfectly!

Fashion police says: "hang this pic on your fridge as a reminder of the 'less is more' rule!"
