A Saudi teacher was left with a serious head injury after one of his students beat him with a rock, Akhbaar news site reported.

In a statement on the matter, the educator, who works at a school in Medinah, shared details of the shocking incident.

He explained that during a regular school day, he asked students to go into a classroom after a recess period, but the attacker refused to do so.

"He was being violent, using offensive words and refusing to enter the classroom. I sent him to the administrator's office and there he was asked to call his parents in," he said.

"I then went back to my class and gave my lesson. A while later I had to pick something up from my car and found the student waiting there, holding a rock. He beat me with it all over my head and then ran away in a friend's car," he added.

The incident left people angry

During the attack, the educator sustained a severe blow to the head and will now have to be monitored by doctors.

After the news of the incident started making the rounds online, many who were upset by it and called on authorities to pass laws to protect educators.

Here's a little of what people said on Twitter:

A few tried to defend the student's violent behavior

"This student is a teen and at this stage of life, every reaction is based on how the teacher deals with them."

Others did the complete opposite

"These acts against educators must stop. Every teacher deserves respect and that has been taken away from them."

Many were upset by the attack

"Where are you, Minister of Education? Do you think what's happening is a good thing?"

"There is no more respect for teachers"

"Ya sater"

A few teachers shared their outfits for future classes

Some called on authorities to take action

"Authorities must pass a law that protects both teachers and students. There is a problem with the currently applied system that needs to be fixed."

Not the first time a similar case is reported

This isn't the first time a similar attack against a school teacher is reported in Saudi Arabia. Earlier last year, a student in the kingdom's city of Dhahran attacked his teacher, injuring him in the face.

At the time, an investigation into the matter was launched and authorities said the student would face disciplinary action.
