If you've ever lived in Kuwait, you know that the gems you'll find in your freej's (street) baqala (convenience store) can never be found anywhere else.

And if you grew up in Kuwait, you know where most of your shopping was done.

The word baqal (vendor) derives from boqool (basic food items like beans/canned goods).

Usually located in tiny corners on every street, they are small convenience stores that stock everyday goods and a few other things that we all love.

For people who grew up in Kuwait, these were some of our favorite items:

1. The iconic Pufac (Bufac)

2. And with Pufac you always find this

3. This childhood favorite

4. What was life without Spout and Tutti Frutti?

5. Or 1,2,3 KDD?

6. No trip to the baqala was complete without these (especially in the summer)

7. Or without the famous Shani

8. A childhood favorite: YanYan

9. Lulu, Failaka, The Sarookh and all the rest were always on the list

9. If you thought baqalas only sell food... think again

Baqalas for life
