On Sunday, nine Saudi players officially joined seven different football clubs in Spain on separate loan deals, under a partnership between the two nations.
The multi-year partnership, which was first announced in October, is between the top professional association of the Spanish football league system, La Liga, the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia, and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation.
The partnership includes both an academy partnership and scouting for local talent from the kingdom's young footballers.
"The General Sports Authority (GSA) of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Arabian Football federation (SAFF) and La Liga, the internationally renowned Spanish football league, today announced key next steps in their partnership to grow the game of football in Saudi Arabia," said a statement from La Liga, according to the Daily Mail.
Of the nine players, three moved to La Liga clubs on loan, while the remaining six moved to Segunda Division (La Liga 2) clubs in Spain on loan, according to Goal.
"The arrival of Saudi footballers in Spain comes after a rigorous scouting process"
"Spanish clubs have worked for months to capture the player which best fits their team and improves their squad," the statement added.
Here are just a few of the players who have moved to Spain:
Yahya Al-Shehri, signed with Leganés
Al-Shehri started his career with Ettifaq, a Saudi professional football club based in Dammam. The 26-year-old then moved to Al Nassr football club based in Riyadh.
Fahad Al-Muwallad, signed with Levante
Prior to this move, the 23-year-old footballer played for Levante, a Spanish football club based in Valencia. Al-Muwallad started his professional career with Al-Ittihad when he was only 16 years old.
Salem Al Dawsari, signed with Villarreal CF
Al Dawsari, a former Al-Hilal player, is now a midfielder/winger at Villarreal CF. The 26-year-old footballer was called to take part in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and scored one goal at that competition.
Other players who have signed with the Segunda Division (La Liga 2) clubs include Nouh Al-Mousa to Real Valladolid, Marwan Othman to Leganes' junior ranks, Abdulmajeed Al Sulaiheem to Rayo Vallecano, Ali Al Namer to Numancia, Jaber Mostafa to Villareal B, and Abdullah Al Hamdan to Sporting Gijon.

The move comes just ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2018
The loan agreement between La Liga and Saudi Arabia aims to give "Saudi players a European experience ahead of the World Cup in Russia this summer," according to Arab News.
In September, Saudi Arabia became the first Arab country to secure a spot in the FIFA World Cup 2018, a first for the country since 2006.
The country will play the opening game of the 2018 World Cup against Russia.
